Juristen en accountants nemen stelling tegen corruptie

Nu in London de grootste anti-corruptie, anti-witwassen, anti-terrorismefinanciering en anti-belastingontduiking ooit wordt gehouden, bevestigen juristen en accountants nog eens hun professionele en morele toewijding aan de bestrijding van dit soort kwaad.

Het gaat om een gezamenlijk initiatief van de Law Society of England and Wales, het Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), STEP, de Law Society of Northern Ireland, de Law Society of Scotland, IFAC, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS, Chartered Accountants Ireland, CIMA, ATT, AIA, CIOT, IAB, ICB, IPA, IFA en UK200.

Hun gezamenlijke verklaring aan de wereld benadrukt nog eens hun gedeelde afschuw van zaken als omkoperij, witwassen, illegale financiering van onaangename groeperingen en belastingontduiking, en hun voortdurende inzet om aan dergelijke praktijken een halt toe te roepen…

In hun eigen woorden:

‘For many years, professional bodies have worked alongside government, regulators, law enforcement and international bodies, and supported our members to combat bribery, corruption, tax-evasion, money laundering and the financing of international terrorism. We will continue this work and provide support to facilitate national and international co-operation and to improve monitoring and enforcement systems.

‘We deplore corruption and the significant harm it causes; we play a vital role in training, educating and supporting our professions to uphold the highest levels of integrity and ethical standards.’
